The University Movers and Drivers are the logistical arm for Surplus Property that helps promote campus-wide recycling and a circular economy. They handle the pickups of e-waste, batteries, textiles, cardboard, toner cartridges, and scrap metal so they can be recycled.
During the 2022-2023 school year:
- Their recycling pickups have helped divert 518,511 pounds of these materials from the landfill
- They have delivered 439 individual items that have been disposed of by one department and repurposed by another
- They have picked up 1,694 individual items from campus that have been repurposed by the public.
The University Movers and Drivers keep sustainability moving here at the University of Pittsburgh by helping support campus sustainability events such as Clutter for a Cause, Most Wanted Food Drive, and the Clean & Swap Event. The work of Pitt Sustainability, the Student Office of Sustainability, and Pitt Surplus would not be possible without the stick-to-itiveness and wherewithal of this group.
