Fare-free public transportation

Avoid the aggravation and expense of commuting by car. Ride Port Authority Transit fare-free with your Panther Card (Pitt ID).

Port Authority provides transportation around Oakland and Pittsburgh 7 days a week, including limited service on holidays.

All University of Pittsburgh students, faculty, and staff may ride all Port Authority buses, trolleys, and inclines within Allegheny County free of charge. Simply tap your valid and current Panther Card to the smart card target located on the Port Authority vehicle to ride fare-free. Family members and guests must pay the full fare.

If you are a current University of Pittsburgh student, faculty, or staff and your Panther Card does not work on the Port Authority Transit, you will be required to pay for that ride. You should come to Panther Central with the 4-digit bus number and route number to complete a Port Authority Refund Request form. Panther Central will review the claim and if warranted, refunds will be given in the form of Panther Funds. Refunds may take 5-7 business days. No cash refunds will be issued.

Interactive bus schedules are available online. Printed schedules are available at the Department of Parking, Transportation and Services, 127 N. Bellefield Avenue.

Updates

Visit the Pittsburgh Port Authority's site for revised bus schedules and helpful tips on staying safe while using public transportation.

Room2Ride

The Port Authority's Room2Ride helps you estimate how full your bus usually is at scheduled bus stop time points. While capacity limits were lifted on June 20, 2021, Room2Ride has been updated to reflect the average number of riders on each bus route. Room2Ride uses historical data and a color-coded system to show users the likelihood of seat availability. Please note that this is not real-time data. Please visit the TrueTime site for arrival and vehicle capacity information.

Room2Ride's Color-coded System:

Dark Blue: Many seats likely available
Light Blue: Few seats likely available
Light Orange: Standing room likely available
Dark Orange: Limited standing room likely available

Visit the Port Authority's site for additional information on their COVID-19 response.
