Hail2Printing: Pitt Receives Print Embellishment Award

Congratulations to Pitt Printing Services, whose outstanding work won them the 2020 Shima Award! Presented by Duplo USA, the Shima Awards are an annual print embellishment competition that recognizes technologically innovative operations and ahead-of-its-time printing.

The University of Pittsburgh’s Printing Services took home the bronze award for its recruitment and marketing print pieces. These works feature impressive aesthetic value, such as spot coating, texture and tactile effects—all of which are implemented with the Duplo DDC-810 Raised Spot UV Coater. The first higher education printing services center to add value to their operations with the DDC-810, Pitt Printing Services has been able to create unique pieces that engage prospective, current and past students alike.

Pitt Printing Services Senior Manager Robert Fitzgerald commented on why the department continues to feature print embellishments in an interview with In-Plant Impressions, “We want to attract students to the University and make really great pieces they can touch and feel…something with a WOW factor. Students don’t get a whole lot of mail so when they get an embellished piece, they’ll save it.”
