Cost Savings

Car and vanpoolers enjoy a wide range of cost savings - from spending less on their monthly parking permit to receiving pre-tax deductions and reducing maintenance costs on their personal vehicles.

Parking Permits

At least one member of an official Pitt carpool must hold a valid parking permit with the University. Additional members of the group who have a permit can relinquish it on the third working day of the month to avoid being charged for parking they are not using.

The carpool member who holds a valid parking permit can subtract up to $20 per month from their permit price. $5 is deducted from the permit holder’s monthly fee for each rider that is added to a carpool.*

*Note: $5 deduction is only applicable for up to four riders in each carpool.

Qualified Commuter Expense Program

Reduce Wear & Tear

Carpoolers and vanpoolers can save hundreds of dollars each year on fuel and parking costs. In addition, carpooling or vanpooling means you'll use your car less often, helping extend its life.

Get Home in a Hurry

The Emergency Ride Home Program is available for all registered full-time, full-fare carpoolers and vanpoolers. This service provides registered Commute Info participants with a free ride home in the event of an emergency.

Courtesy Parking

Courtesy parking is available for all qualifying car and vanpool users.

Qualifying carpoolers and vanpoolers can use courtesy parking for their own vehicle when their primary driver does not come to work that day, or when the rider must leave work before their car or vanpool leaves for the day. Each rider or driver may use the courtesy parking incentive up to two times per term, or six times per year.

Due to limited parking availability on campus, a temporary hang tag will be issued to qualifying car and vanpoolers who use our courtesy parking program. Your hangtag will only be valid for one vehicle and can be retrieved one business day before it is needed at 127 North Bellefield Avenue. Present a valid photo ID to retrieve a hangtag. Hangtags are valid at Soldiers and Sailors Garage and OC Lot.
