Commuting Alternatives

Green Initiatives

The University of Pittsburgh

We are committed to offering quality services in sustainable mobility. University shuttles operate daily to provide campus transportation, which reduces the need for additional vehicles in the community. Our agreement with Port Authority of Allegheny County offers bus and light rail transportation for students, faculty, and staff. In addition, carpool and vanpool ride-matching services are readily available to the Oakland community through Commuting Alternatives. For those who bike in Oakland, free bicycle racks are located throughout campus, as well as bicycle lockers, which are available for a nominal fee. To learn more about any of these programs and services, visit Commuting Alternatives.

In addition to the transportation modes outlined above, vehicles operating through the University’s Moving and Receiving Department and the shuttle system have implemented the use of biodiesel fuel.

The Parking, Transportation, and Services Department is proud to have been acknowledged for these efforts with the following awards:

  1. Received an A on the Campus Sustainability Report Card, 2009 and 2010
  2. Bicycle Friendly Employer 2011
