Bike-Friendly University

The University of Pittsburgh is one of 222 colleges and universities affiliated with The League of American Bicyclists. Currently, we hold the League’s Silver Bicycle-Friendly University Designation (BFU) for our work in promoting and enabling safe, accessible bicycling on campus. Recent initiatives include the transformation of Bigelow Boulevard to create a complete street with separated bike lanes, our 3-year partnership with POGOH (formerly Healthy Ride), and our growing Bike to Campus Week! We are committed to improving upon our current BFU status and are aiming to achieve Gold BFU status by 2025. We are working to improve our BFU status through our future bike education program run by Pitt’s first League Cycling Instructors and continuing to expand our bike parking options across campus.

Bike to Campus Week

The annual Bike to Campus Week brings together local bike organizations, folks new to biking, experienced bicyclists, and bike educators for a week of activities that highlight the many benefits that make biking fun and enjoyable! It is a time to celebrate our bicycling community and promote biking as a sustainable, active commuting opportunity and recreational activity.

Register Your Bike

Register your bike for free through Pitt's BikeIndex. Registering your bike deters theft, provides proof of ownership, and could help you recover your bike if retrieved from a theft.

Bike Parking & Storage

From outdoor racks and lockers to indoor bike rooms, there are plenty of safe and secure bike parking options available to you. Explore bike parking maps and learn how to register for a bike locker or bike room.
